What is the difference between ‘pre-washed’ and ‘pre-shrunk’ fabric?
Some manufacturers (Lewis & Irene) manufacture their fabric on pre-shrunk fabric. We don’t typically wash pre-shrunk fabric. We’ve found that Lewis & Irene fabrics are extremely color-fast, and there is no chemical smell from these fabrics, which are manufactured in South Korea, not in China.
Most other fabrics are not printed on pre-shrunk fabric, so we do wash these. This helps to ensure color-fastness for your finished project. Plus, have you ever tried to pre-wash pre-cuts? Yikes! It’s just easier for you if we take care of that step before cutting your fabric.
In addition, it’s very important to pre-wash batiks. There’s a wax used in the manufacturing process that really needs a good wash to remove before cutting/quilting. Your longarm service will thank us!
If for any reason you don't want your fabric pre-washed, just let us know! We'll do everything we can to accomodate your needs. Our goal is--your quilt, your way.
Why does it take so long for you to ship my product?
We don’t pre-make our kits. Instead, we wait until you place your order. That way, if you want to customize (size, colors, etc.), we have the opportunity to provide a unique service that helps you make your quilt your way.
What are 'dog ears'
Dog ears are the tips of triangle (and other angled pieces) that need to be trimmed after sewing blocks together. The dog ears on our angled pieces--including half- and quarter-square triangles are already removed. They are precision cut so that they perfectly show the start and end point for your perfect 1/4" seam. I can't tell you how much easier piecing a quilt is with this great feature!
Following is information on swatch sizes for the various manufacturers:
